Growing Pains

Due to extremely rapid growth in number of employees and customers, ServiceMax found themselves outgrowing their office space. The company decided to design and construct new company headquarters, capable of accommodating up to 500 employees. ServiceMax turned to Portable CIO to provide oversight over all the technology-related aspects of the project, including audio-video, facility security, and telecommunications.

Prioritizing for Stability and Scalability

With many years providing IT support to ServiceMax, Portable CIO was familiar with the company’s business needs and goals. As ServiceMax relies almost 100% on internet-based resources, ensuring a stable and secure network was Portable CIO’s highest priority. Also important was implementing an IT infrastructure that would scale with ServiceMax’s growth.

Powerfully Networked

Portable CIO designed and installed an enterprise-grade network linking four individual network closets located throughout the 60,000 square foot campus. The solution included redundant Internet connections and routers. The network was also designed to distribute critical wireless access points across the various switches to minimize the possibility of a wide-scale wireless outage. Portable CIO worked in conjunction with audio/video and facility security vendors to ensure the wired network requirements were met for other network-connected devices.

Reliable Remote Supportnetwork monitoring

Portable CIO is able to monitor every aspect of the new network remotely. Consultants are notified in real-time if one of the internet connections goes down, if a network switch is not functioning properly, or if someone attempts to install an unauthorized wireless access point on the network.

When faced with moving to new headquarters, Portable CIO was one of two vendors that we hand-selected for this incredibly important project. They began by consulting closely with us on design and long-term IT strategy. The result was an expertly designed and reliable network infrastructure that included redundant routers and a first-rate wireless network. Throughout every stage of the project, they provided clear executive-level communication and consistent project management in support of key decisions. Every detail was managed professionally. Productive Move

Due to advanced planning and coordination with other vendors, ServiceMax was able to close the old office space on a Friday at 5:00pm and begin working at the new office on Monday at 8:00am (63 hours later). The ability for ServiceMax to “move over a weekend” ensured that staff lost zero hours of productivity and everyone was able to begin work at the new headquarters on Day 1.
